Lunch With Soupy TV Show

Lunch With Soupy was a noontime children’s television program which debuted in Detroit in 1953. Then in October 1959, Soupy’s show was broadcast nationally on the ABC television network.

As a small child I grew up having lunch 5 times a week while watching ‘Lunch With Soup’. The show consisted of slap-stick comedy, lots of cream whip pies in the face, hand puppets plus old black and white cartoons or ‘Our Gang’ shorts.

In it’s day and time, the show was a clean-cut children’s program. Normally there was no smoking on the program, I was surprised to run across this episode which appears to be condoning alcohol, tobacco products and gambling. This type of children’s programming would certainly be unacceptable in today’s society.
